A caravan or park-home gas-appliance service should be planned around the exact appliance, fuel supply, use of the unit and the competence required for the work. A service and a gas-safety check are not interchangeable. Before arranging anything, identify the appliance and confirm the right scope with the person who will carry out the work.
Safety comes first
Do not remove a gas-appliance casing, alter an LPG connection, work on a flue or attempt repairs from an online guide. For a gas smell or suspected carbon-monoxide concern, leave the area and use the correct emergency route for the fuel supplier or emergency service.
A service is not the same as a gas-safety record
A service is maintenance and condition work for the appliance in accordance with the relevant instructions. A gas-safety check is a separate safety assessment with its own purpose and record requirements. One should not be assumed to include the other.
If the caravan is hired out or used as holiday accommodation, legal duties and record-keeping may apply. For owner-used statics and park homes, the practical requirements can also depend on the site agreement, insurer and appliance installation.
Information to have ready before asking about service
Clear appliance information reduces the risk of asking for the wrong type of work. Take details from labels or manuals without opening the appliance or removing a cover.
- Caravan or park-home type, and whether it is owner-used, let or otherwise used for business.
- Appliance make, model and controller/display information, if shown on the outside of the unit or in its manual.
- Whether the fuel supply is LPG from cylinders or a bulk vessel, and any visible supplier information.
- Any current symptoms, warning text or changes in heating or hot-water performance.
- Park access requirements and whether the operator has rules for visiting engineers.
Competence is specific to the equipment
A general statement that someone is registered is not enough on its own. Ask to see the engineer's current Gas Safe ID card and check that its categories cover the LPG appliance and type of work required. Do not assume that domestic natural-gas registration alone proves competence for every caravan, park-home or LPG task.
If access, coverage or the exact appliance cannot be confirmed, do not treat this page as an offer of attendance. It is sensible to establish those facts before any appointment is agreed.
If there is a fault now
A current fault needs a safe assessment, not a new service-plan assumption. Record the exact message, appliance model, whether other systems are affected and any safe external observations. Do not repeatedly reset an appliance, open it or attempt to change the gas or water system.
Questions people ask
Is a caravan boiler service the same as a gas-safety check?
No. A service and a gas-safety check have different purposes. The correct work and records depend on the appliance, its fuel supply, the caravan's use and the applicable obligations. Ask the person carrying out the work to explain the scope before you agree it.
What should I check on an engineer's Gas Safe card?
Check that the card is current and that the listed categories match the LPG appliance and the work required. Do not rely on a general description alone where caravan, park-home or LPG equipment is involved.
Can BPCE arrange a caravan boiler service?
This information page does not promise availability, area coverage, park access, price or a particular type of LPG work. Use the contact route with the appliance, location and access details so the relevant question can be considered before anything is agreed.
